Doula Care.png

"If a doula were a drug, it would be unethical not to use it." - John Kennel

What is a doula?
My text book tells me that I am a trained and experience labour companion who provides the woman and her husband or partner continuous emotional support, physical comfort and assistance in obtaining information before, during and just after childbirth.

So what does all that mean exactly?

It means that you are not alone.

Before you give birth, I will help you write and delegate your birth plan. Whether a home birth, or a planned c-section, I will answer your questions, and find you the appropriate resources when I don't have the answer. I will ask you questions, and make sure that you feel ready for one of the biggest days of your life.

The day your baby is born, my sole concern is you, and your partner. Emotions run high, but I'm there to keep you calm, steady and level, and to advocate for you and your family. I will continue asking questions, making sure you are confident and comfortable with how your delivery progresses. I will also make sure that your partner is ready, confident and steady by your side.

In the days following your delivery, I will visit to check in on you. I can answer questions about breast/chest feeding, and provide basic lactation care, or help you with any questions about formula and bottle care. I can offer holistic options for home care and healing, as well as help assess any mental health issues that may be arising, as well as make recommendations and referrals for long-term postpartum care.
